The decision to seek counseling for your child is an important step in the direction of mental health. Parents initiate counseling for various reasons, including fine tuning their own parenting skills, dealing with specific child mental health issues, enhancing their child's emotional/behavioral coping skills, handling 'normal'/typical temperament patterns, improving parent/child interactions, developing more efficient school performances etc.
In our opinion, counseling is a process which involves the formation of a relationship between the client and therapist , and, as an outgrowth of that relationship , insights are developed and techniques or approaches are utilized to assist with growth. We utilize a variety of techniques, often dubbed "eclectic" and may include cognitive therapy, behavior management/modification, family counseling, parent training, psychoeducational/teaching approaches etc.
